With the evolution of digital marketplace, the competitive
intensity is increasing, no-Matter what credentials a business has, it has to
compete with other enterprises on a global scale, It has to keep moving at high
pace (sustainably) to keep competitions at bay. In this cut-throat competitive
and uncertain environment no business can choose to become complacent about its
current position, even if that business is monopolistic in nature.
Performance innovation (PI) is one such tool that businesses can
employ to distinct themselves from rest of its competition, In practice the
business processes comes with lot of redundancies, which slows down the
performance of the enterprise. The redundancies/bottleneck can be in terms of
cumbersome hierarchy, Un-necessary lines of command, Un-reasonable SOPs etc,
which were designed by the enterprises ages ago and are still being used. These
unnecessary procedures/hierarchy slows down the decision making at the enterprise,
at times the receptiveness of business with respect to the market conditions,
customer compliant, external environment etc. are compromised.
PI deals with systematically analyzing
the redundancies that exists in the process, Hierarchy, information flow at the
operation level and developing a framework/processes methodically to correct
the existing redundancies.
It helps in inner engineering of the
enterprise, to make it competitive from within. The competitors can copy your
idea, product or technology, but what they cannot copy is your inner processes,
that gives an enterprise a leverage over rest others.
Cultivating innovation in operational efficiency requires
fanatic discipline, it is not a strategic decision that can happen in the board
room, it has to be understood from the ground level, systematically simplifying
processes to attain a methodical and consistent approach for achieving
operational efficiencies.
